Job summary

Mesa County seeks a dedicated Accountant to help create accurate financial statements and reports, maintain the general ledger, and support cross-functional functions such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Financial Reporting.

The role features rotating duties across core accounting areas, requiring clear written and verbal communication with citizens, vendors, county staff, and department fiscal managers for continuity and professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance required.
• Two years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• CPA is desired.

Responsibilities

• Enter transactions and maintain the general ledger and related records.
• Prepare periodic financial reports and schedules for management.
• Support budget and forecast activities with timely ledger entries.
• Reconcile ledger and bank accounts; assist with annual audit.
• Manage accounts payable/receivable cycling through monthly routines.
• Assist with asset records, depreciation, and inventory reconciliation.
• Lead process improvements and cross-train staff through rotating duties.
