Haverford Township is seeking an Accountant to join our Finance Department and support general accounting, payroll, taxes, and pension administration. The role emphasizes a balanced 35-hour work week, professional growth, and stability in local government.

The Accountant will work under the Director of Finance, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance while gaining exposure to multiple accounting and finance areas in a collaborative public service environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; equivalent education/experience considered.
• Two to four years of accounting experience preferred.
• Governmental accounting experience is a plus, but not required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and financial software systems.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and organization.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
• Commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and public service.

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
• Reconcile accounts, prepare financial analyses and reports.
• Assist with year-end closing, audits, and regulatory filings.
• Support payroll, tax administration, and pension-related tasks.
• Maintain fixed asset records and bank reconciliations.
• Respond to inquiries from employees, residents, vendors, and auditors.
