Job summary

Maricopa County’s Enterprise Technology & Innovation is seeking a Public Safety/RF Programmer Analyst to configure radios, train users, troubleshoot issues and maintain programming records for multiple departments including the Sheriff’s Office.

You will work hands-on with advanced radio technologies, collaborating with RF engineers, senior radio techs, and installers to ensure reliable, mission-critical communications for first responders and public services.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience in configuring radio templates and programming support of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Communications Technology, Information Systems, or related field; combination of education and experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proficiency in two-way radio programming (Motorola preferred).
  • Familiarity with trunked radio systems, P25 digital standards, encryption, and simulcast technologies.
  • Understanding of RF fundamentals.
  • Ability to maintain detailed inventory records.
  • Strong troubleshooting and documentation habits.

Responsibilities

  • Program and update portable, mobile, and base radios using vendor-specific software (e.g., Motorola CPS, Radio Management).
  • Deploy firmware updates.
  • Provide support for end users, including troubleshooting radio issues and coordinating repairs.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute code plugs and programming templates for various user roles and departments.
  • Maintain detailed programming records, inventory databases, and change logs.
  • Deprogram radios and prepare them for disposal.
  • Train personnel on radio usage, features, and operational protocols.
  • Generate reports on radio firmware and programming versions.

We Require
  • One year of experience in the configuration of radio templates and programming support of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Communications Technology, Information Systems, or related field
  • A combination of post‑secondary education and/or job‑related experience may substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Working Conditions

Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly. The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties & responsibilities the employee maybe exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
