Job summary

Centra Health is seeking a uniformed Public Safety Officer in Lynchburg to provide emergency and security services across the hospital environment. The role emphasizes safeguarding patients, visitors, and staff with a strong commitment to patient and family centered care.

The position includes monitoring access, responding to Code calls, preserving safety, and supporting security operations across Centra Health facilities. On-the-job training is provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.

Responsibilities

• Monitors conduct of visitors on premises; interviews unauthorized persons and completesOfficer Incident Reports.
• Monitors video footage, alarms, responds per protocol, and secures property/equipment.
• Responds to Code calls (e.g., Grey, Red, Yellow, Orange, Silver, ADAM).
• Enforces parking rules and documents infractions in the parking areas.
• Restraints patients per hospital policy when requested by Centra Health staff.
• Prepares helipad for helicopter arrivals/departures.
• Provides notary public services.
• Manages identities, log-in/out, and release of bodies from morgue/DOA; handles radio calls and pages.
• Performs weapons screening/detection and responds to alarms per protocol, maintaining safety and professionalism.
• Performs other duties as directed by Sergeant/Public Safety leadership.

Responsibilities

• Monitors conduct of visitors on premises. Confronts and interviews unauthorized persons, as needed. Completes required documentation, including writing accurate, clear, and legible Officer Incident Reports.
• Monitor video footage, security, and fire alarms, and respond based on established protocols, and secures property or equipment to prevent possible negative outcomes.
• Responds as needed to "Code" calls (i.e. Grey, Red, Yellow, Orange, Silver, ADAM, etc.).
• Monitors the security and safety of parking lot, documents infractions, and enforces parking rules.
• Restrains patients who present a threat to themselves or staff according to hospital policy if requested by appropriate Centra Health staff.
• Prepares helipad for safe arrival/departure of all helicopter traffic.
• Provides notary public services.
• Ensures identities of, log-in/out, and/or release bodies from the morgue, funeral home, and in hospital dead on arrivals (DOA). Handles radio calls, as well as pages and requests for service.
• Perform and support weapons screening and detection operations in accordance with established protocols, including the use of fixed and handheld detection equipment. Identify, assess, and respond appropriately to alarms or potential threats, conduct secondary screenings, and ensure all interactions are handled professionally while maintaining safety and compliance.
• Performs other duties at the direction of the Sergeant and/or Public Safety leader.

Travel Required

Travel is expected to be between Centra owned facilities and training assignments.
