Job summary

Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA is seeking a Per Diem Public Safety Officer (Security Officer) to patrol hospital buildings and grounds, protect people and assets, and investigate incidents. The role includes reporting, responding to emergencies, and coordinating with authorities.

• 1 year prior experience as a Healthcare Security Officer preferred.
• IAHSS basic certification preferred but not required.
• Good writing and verbal skills and ability to produce concise, accurate reports.
• Ability to relate to all age and ethnic groups in a courteous and professional manner.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• CPR (Heart Saver) certification within 4 months of new position.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention) within 4 months of new position and annual renewal.
• MOAB Training within 4 months of hire and every 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to protect against fire, theft, illegal entry, safety infractions and other irregularities.
• Ensure security and safety of hospital properties, employees, equipment and records, including parking lots and motor vehicles.
• Investigate disturbances and maintain records; prepare incident reports and related documents.
• Investigate disturbances, take charge of policing in emergencies to maintain order and protect property.
• Respond to emergencies such as accidents, crimes and safety hazards; provide assistance and summon authorities.
• Assist hospital personnel and restrain psychiatric patients as requested.
• Secure and unlock offices and facilities.
• Secure patient valuables and lost and found articles.
• Maintain records and reports; keep department equipment and supplies.
• Attend education and inservice training programs.
• Perform other duties as directed.

Purpose of Position

To provide security for patients, visitors and employees. Protect the assets of the Hospital including the buildings and property of Cape Cod Hospital. To enforce all applicable policies, rules, and regulations of the Hospital.

Description

• Patrol Hospital buildings and grounds, to protect against fire, theft, illegal entry, infractions of safety regulations and other irregularities.
• Insure the security and safety of Hospital properties, employees, equipment and records, as well as, all physical aspects of the property including parking lots and motor vehicles.
• Participate in investigations, maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities accurately and completely.
• Investigate disturbances and in the event of emergency, take charge of policing to maintain order, safety and to protect property.
• Respond to emergency situations such as accidents and injuries crimes and safety hazards. Provide assistance and summon the proper authorities.
• Respond to inquiries and assist Hospital personnel; provide assistance in restraining of psychiatric patients as requested.
• Secure and unlock offices and facilities.
• Secure patient valuables and lost and found articles.
• Maintain required records and reports and files as required. Maintain department equipment and supplies.
• Attendance required at all education and inservice training programs.
• Perform other work related duties as requested/directed.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

• International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety basic certification program ("IAHSS") preferred, but not required for employment.
