Position Title: Public Safety Officer (Safety/Security Officer III)
Purpose & Scope:
Public Safety Officer (Safety/Security Officer III) proactively patrols VHC Health facilities and property to maintain order, protect personnel, and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc. Enforces VHC Health policies and provides assistance to patients, visitors, and employees. Responds to other Security requirements of the VHC campus. Responds to complaints of wrongdoing and prepares incident reports/activity logs. Responds to emergency alerts and situations on campus.
Public Safety Officer (Safety/Security Officer III) will be required to successfully complete advanced first aid training, which will include, but is not limited to, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Once trained, the Public Safety Officer (Safety/Security Officer III) will respond to calls where a person may be experiencing a medical emergency in order to assess, stabilize, and arrange transport and/or transport the person(s) to the Emergency Department.
Public Safety Officer (Safety/Security Officer III), once trained, equipped, and authorized, will be required to effectively and proactively handle situations that may involve acts of violence necessitating a higher level of security and protective response, which may involve the use of physical force and/or defensive weapons up to, and including, deadly force. Public Safety Officer (Safety/Security Officer III) may also use non-clinical restraint devices, such as handcuffs.
Public Safety Officer (Safety/Security Officer III) will be required to wear specific uniform and protective clothing, such as ballistic vests that weigh over 10 lbs in addition to wearing body-worn cameras and other required duty gear. Public Safety Officer (Safety/Security Officer III) will be required to be physically fit; have the ability to stand and/or walk up to 12 hours per shift; be physically able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations; and be able to use physical force to defend themselves or others, or to detain persons for arrest.
