The purpose of this job is to serve as a first responder providing emergency and non-emergency public safety services to the Broward College community. The officer is responsible for fostering a safe environment, acting as a deterrent to crime through proactive patrols and crime prevention measures, and enforcing laws and college policies. The role includes investigating incidents, responding to emergencies, and documenting findings.
Additional responsibilities include completing required training such as the Public Safety Academy, certifying in the use of intermediate weapons and equipment, and performing community outreach and enforcement duties as needed. The officer must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, with preferred college coursework in public safety, at least one year of related experience, current CPR and Florida security/license certifications, and a valid Florida driver’s license. Knowledge of law enforcement techniques, community policing, and emergency procedures is essential.
Applicants should demonstrate strong communication skills, judgment under stress, and physical ability to assist in emergencies. The position offers a salary range of $41,600 to $47,840, with benefits and opportunities for career development.
