Public Safety Officer I, II, & III - Full Time Nights

Under minimal supervision, performs duties as a Public Safety Officer I in the Public Safety department. Responsibilities include vehicle and foot patrols, patient restraints, incident report writing, public relations, emergency preparedness, door unlocks/locks, guest assistance, access control, and de-escalation of hostile visitors, employees, or patients. The Officer should have a general understanding of the CCTV system and maintain extensive radio communication with dispatch to respond effectively to calls for service.

This position requires active participation in fulfilling the mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH). Employees are expected to demonstrate behavior aligned with the hospital's core values and support strategic plans and quality improvement activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct vehicle and foot patrols to ensure a safe environment for staff, physicians, patients, and guests.
  2. Respond promptly to calls for service.
  3. Maintain comprehensive radio communication proficiency.
  4. Investigate all facility interactions, including criminal investigations.
  5. Complete reports, logs, and forms timely and accurately.
  6. Provide professional services to staff, patients, and visitors, ensuring effective communication with the command center and emergency agencies.
  7. Maintain professionalism and authority in conduct.
  8. Report safety violations to leadership.
  9. Assist hospital personnel with patient restraints as needed.
  10. Respond to fire alarms and security alerts.
  11. Manage access control at assigned posts.
  12. Monitor surveillance cameras and understand CCTV operations.
  13. Maintain relationships with law enforcement agencies.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in public safety, security, or military is a plus. Cultural diversity training is also a plus.

B. Qualifications/Experience

  • Valid CA guard card required.
  • Current CPI certification or must obtain within 90 days.
  • Current AHA BLS certification required; CPR acceptable for first 60 days.
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year experience in security/public safety preferred. Healthcare experience is a plus.
  • Military experience, especially in military police, is advantageous.
  • Excellent guest relations skills.
  • Ability to conduct investigations, interviews, and prepare reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

  • Strong service orientation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of investigation techniques and CCTV operations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and typing speed of 50+ WPM.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
