Base pay range

$21.00/hr - $31.00/hr

Position Summary

Under minimal supervision, performs the duties of a Public Safety Officer I for the Public Safety department. Responsibilities include conducting vehicle and foot patrols, patient restraints, incident report writing, public relations, emergency preparedness, door unlocks/locks, guest assistance, access control, and de-escalation of hostile visitors, employees, or patients. The officer should have a general understanding of the CCTV system and communicate effectively via radio with dispatch.

This position requires understanding and active participation in fulfilling MLKCH's mission, demonstrating behavior aligned with the hospital's core values, and supporting strategic and quality improvement goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct patrols to ensure safety for staff, patients, and visitors
  • Respond promptly to service calls
  • Operate radio communication systems proficiently
  • Investigate incidents, including criminal activities
  • Complete reports and logs accurately and timely
  • Provide professional service to all hospital stakeholders
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and authority
  • Report safety violations
  • Assist with patient restraints as needed
  • Respond to fire alarms and security alerts
  • Control access at assigned posts
  • Monitor surveillance cameras effectively
  • Maintain relationships with law enforcement agencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: experience in security/public safety, military, or related fields; training in cultural diversity
  • Valid CA guard card
  • Current CPI and AHA BLS certifications (or obtain within 90 days)
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year security/public safety experience; healthcare experience preferred
  • Military police experience is a plus
  • Excellent guest relations and computer skills
  • Ability to investigate, interview, and report
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and investigative skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and typing skills
  • Ability to establish cooperative relationships
