The schedule for listed sites can change depending on operational needs. Selected applicants should expect to work Monday through Friday with possible weekend coverage depending on the assigned site. Specific schedules will be discussed during interviews.

Position: Public Safety Officer - Armed

Location: Advocate Medical Group clinics, 2511 N. Kedzie Blvd., Chicago, IL

Schedule: Full Time; Monday-Friday, with possible weekend coverage. Specific hours to be discussed during the manager interview.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Provide security services professionally, fairly, and compassionately, following policies, procedures, and training. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, and ensure safety and security regulations are enforced. Keep department uniforms and equipment in good condition.
  2. Conduct interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety, including inspections, hazards, fire conditions, audits, valuables management, and contraband searches. Assist patients, visitors, and staff with information and physical help. Manage traffic and monitor conduct, confronting unauthorized persons as needed.
  3. Respond to and investigate workplace violence, including service calls involving threats or violence. Serve as a primary resource for de-escalation.
  4. Plan, prevent, and respond to emergencies like infant abductions, fires, and active threats. Respond immediately to emergencies, including physical intervention when necessary.
  5. Investigate incidents on property and complete reports. Address complaints appropriately and escalate when necessary.
  6. Perform liaison duties to build partnerships with departments and units. Provide security awareness education to staff.
  7. Coordinate with law enforcement and first responders, ensuring policy compliance and safety during prisoner transport and other activities.
  8. Maintain current training standards, including radio communication, de-escalation, CPR, restraints, Taser use, and equipment handling.

License/Registration/Certification Required:

  • Healthcare Security Officer Certification (CHSO) from IAHSS within two years of appointment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • FOID card or CCW license issued by Illinois authorities.
  • Meet licensing requirements and obtain Firearm Control Card within 90 days.
  • Certified in Taser use within 90 days of hire and periodically thereafter.

Education Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience Required:

  • At least 1 year in security, public safety, or customer service, responding to emergencies and resolving risks to people or property.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Completion of Illinois 40-hour armed course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement.
  • Willingness to carry a department-issued firearm, maintained by the officer.
  • Pass annual firearm qualification with a score of 70% or higher.
  • Good judgment, courteous demeanor, and ability to handle dangerous situations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency with computers (Word, Excel, web navigation, databases).
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screens, physical, and psychological assessments.
  • Physical ability to restrain and assist with patients, operate equipment, and handle stressful situations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, drive, and lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Correctable 20/20 vision.
  • Exposure to hazards and emotionally charged situations.
  • Operate all necessary equipment safely.
