Position: Public Safety Officer I - Armed
Location: Trinity hospital; Chicago, IL.
Registry/PRN Status: scheduled on-call, as needed, to help fill in for departmental gaps and needs.
Various Shifts: as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Provide security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion, in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor to inspire confidence in patients, visitors, and team members. Ensure safety by adhering to all safety and security rules and regulations. Keep Department uniforms and equipment in good repair.
- Conduct interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety, including inspections for vulnerabilities, hazards, fire conditions, audits, valuables management, and contraband searches. Assist with information, directions, and physical help. Control traffic, monitor conduct, and question unauthorized persons.
- Prevent, respond to, and investigate workplace violence. Respond to service calls involving combative or threatening individuals. Serve as a primary resource for de-escalation.
- Plan, prevent, and respond to emergencies such as infant/child abductions, fire, and active threats. Respond immediately to emergencies, physically intervening when necessary.
- Investigate incidents on property, complete reports, and escalate complaints appropriately.
- Perform liaison rounding to build partnerships with departments and units. Deliver security awareness education.
- Coordinate with law enforcement and first responders, ensuring policy compliance and safety.
- Maintain current training standards in radio communication, de-escalation, CPR, restraints, Taser, and department-issued equipment.
Requirements:
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) within two years of appointment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- FOID Card or CCW license.
- Meet IL licensing requirements and obtain Firearm Control Card within 90 days.
- Certified in Taser use within 90 days and periodically thereafter.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Typically 1 year of security or related experience responding to emergent situations.
Skills & Abilities:
- Completion of IL 40-hour armed course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement.
- Willingness to carry a firearm, maintain equipment, and pass qualification courses.
- Good judgment, communication skills, and ability to handle dangerous situations.
- Proficient with computers and documentation.
- Ability to physically restrain and handle stressful situations.
Physical & Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, drive, lift up to 35 lbs, and operate firearms safely.
- Correctable 20/20 vision.
- Exposure to hazards and emotionally charged situations.
- Physically fit to perform all duties, including restraining patients and walking facilities.
