Position Summary

Provides services as a Public Safety Officer within BMC Department of Public Safety to provide police, security, parking, transportation, and control center services as necessary. Ensures consistent and safe service delivery throughout the medical center involving all members' institutions. Utilizes the medical center's core values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the medical center's mission.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties

1. Perform daily operational functions upon request by the Public Safety Supervisor or Desk Officer to meet BMC's operational needs efficiently.
2. Respond promptly to all stat requests, emergency, contingency, or disaster situations, and assigned calls.
3. Document incidents accurately, complete reports clearly, and submit them before shift end.
4. Utilize strong customer service skills and community policing philosophies to develop relationships with the community.
5. Manage complex, emotionally charged situations to restore order and investigate criminal or suspicious activity.
6. Investigate reports of suspicious activity, hazards, or criminal activity, taking necessary steps to mitigate risks.
7. Take appropriate police actions when necessary, following training and legal requirements.
8. Use de-escalation techniques and physical force when necessary to ensure safety.
9. Provide escorts to patients, visitors, staff, and transfer cash escorts as needed.
10. Patrol BMC property, document deficiencies or violations, and control access to parking areas and restricted zones.
11. Perform access control duties, verifying identification, enforcing policies, and inspecting materials leaving the premises.
12. Assist with public inquiries courteously and professionally.
13. Perform Public Safety Desk Officer duties as assigned, coordinating activities and maintaining security systems.

Job Requirements

Education: HS Diploma required; A.S. in Criminal Justice or equivalent preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess and maintain ability to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts.

Experience: 6 months to 1 year preferred in security and customer service.

Knowledge and Skills: Detailed understanding of responsibilities and duties outlined above.
