Maryville University is seeking a dedicated Public Safety Officer to join our campus safety team. The role focuses on proactive patrols, emergency response, investigations, and community engagement.

Responsibilities include enforcing policies, assisting the university community, and maintaining a secure campus environment through professional, client‑facing service.

Qualificações

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to obtain Metro Security License and multiple certifications (Firearms, OC Spray, Baton, Handcuff, First Aid/CPR/AED).
• Experience or willingness in public safety or campus environments is preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Perform proactive foot and vehicle patrols to maintain campus safety.
• Respond to alarms, medical incidents, and calls for service.
• Investigate incidents and maintain accurate reports and logs.
• Engage with students, staff, and visitors to assist and enforce policies respectfully.
• Participate in required safety trainings and professional development.

Maryville University is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Public Safety Officer to join our campus safety team. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about public service, community engagement, emergency response, and helping others. Public Safety Officers play a critical role in maintaining a secure campus environment by conducting proactive patrols, responding to emergencies, assisting the community, and enforcing university policies and applicable laws.

What You'll Do

Campus Safety & Security

• Conduct proactive foot and vehicle patrols across campus to maintain a safe and secure environment.
• Monitor campus facilities and grounds, identify safety concerns, and ensure building security.
• Respond to security alarms, fire alarms, suspicious activity, and calls for service.
• Detect and deter criminal activity and take appropriate enforcement action when necessary.

Emergency Response

• Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide first aid, CPR, and AED assistance when needed.
• Assist during campus emergencies, severe weather events, evacuations, and other crisis situations.
• Support emergency preparedness efforts and help ensure the safety of the university community.

Investigations & Reporting

• Conduct preliminary investigations and gather information related to incidents and criminal activity.
• Maintain accurate reports, daily logs, and incident documentation.
• Assist with follow-up investigations as directed.

Community Engagement & Service

• Provide assistance to students, employees, and visitors.
• Enforce university parking regulations and assist motorists as needed.
• Direct traffic during special events and emergencies.
• Foster positive relationships through professionalism, visibility, and customer service.

Professional Development

• Participate in required training programs, including:
• First Aid/CPR/AED
• Firearms certification
• OC Spray and Baton certification
• Active Shooter Response
• De-escalation techniques
• Other department-required training

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain and maintain:
• Metro Security License
• Firearms certification
• OC Spray certification
• ASP Baton certification
• Handcuff certification
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior law enforcement, military, campus safety, security, or emergency response experience.
• Experience working in a higher education environment.
• Familiarity with security technologies such as CCTV, access control systems, and ID card systems.

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Understanding of security and law enforcement practices, preferably within a higher education environment.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and report‑writing skills.
• Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and service.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and serve a diverse campus community.

Additional Requirements Include

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 45 pounds
• Ability to perform foot patrols and operate a patrol vehicle
• Ability to provide CPR and first aid without assistance
• Availability to work evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and other assigned schedules
