Job summary

Manhattan University seeks Public Safety Officers to promote a safe, secure campus. This is an on-campus, in-person role requiring vigilance, reporting, and coordination with law enforcement when needed.

Candidates must have a high school diploma, NYS Guard License, First Aid, and willingness to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends; overtime is mandatory.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid NYS Guard License and First Aid Certification preferred.
• Willingness to obtain COF license if not already held is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Protect personnel and facilities from fire, accidents, and vandalism.
• Patrol premises, monitor surveillance, inspect entry points, and control access.
• Complete detailed incident reports and obtain witness signatures.
• Operate and troubleshoot safety systems and communication equipment.
• Respond to emergencies and assist as needed.

Hourly Rate without the Fire Guard License: $21.48

Hourly Rate with the Fire Guard License: $22.48

Shift Differential of 10% for Evenings and Nights

Additional $1.00 per hour if you have a Fireguard license oronce its obtained which is mandatory

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Public Safety Officers (PSOs) are vital to promoting a safe andsecure campus. They maintain law and order on the campus, enforceUniversity regulations, and request assistance from law enforcementagencies when necessary. Qualified candidates will have excellentwritten and verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, andsound judgment.

This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remoteposition.

Job Responsibilities

• Protect Manhattan University personnel and facilities againstthe hazards of fire, accidents and vandalism; enforce allregulations, including those in department manual for SecurityOfficers
• Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property;monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment,and access points; permitting entry
• Protect the building structure and grounds to which officer isassigned, including the contents, occupants and visitors; patrol asassigned and seek out and take preventive action against existinghazards or conditions which may cause injury, damage orinterference with normal operation, and report sameimmediately
• Complete reports by recording observations, information,occurrences; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures
• Ensure operation of equipment and systems; troubleshootingmalfunctions; calling for repairs
• Follow procedures for various initiatives, including fireprevention, property patrol, parking enforcement and accidentinvestigations
• Guide visitors and assist in a courteous manner; return lost orfound articles to Public Safety Office; assists ill or injuredpersons in obtaining care, and report such events immediately byradio and on proper report forms
• Public Safety Officers are required to use computer systems andother technology, namely access control, visitor management andsecurity camera systems
• A Public Safety Officer will be assigned to work either a day,evening, or overnight shift depending on the needs of thedepartment. The position requires the Security Officer workholidays, weekends, nights, and a variety of shifts and overtimewhen circumstances warrant. PSOs are considered Essential Personnelin order to maintain the safety and security of Universityproperty, personnel, affiliates and visitors
• Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid NYS Guard License, NYS Dept. of State’s 8-hour mandatedcertificate training
• First Aid Certification, F-01/F-03/F-04 COF license a plus.Will be required to obtain after hire 90 days to Minimum 1-yearprior security experience
• Prior experience in college campus a plus
• Must be physically fit
• Able to engage in strenuous physical activity, includingwalking, climbing stairs, as well as standing or sitting for longperiods of time
• Willing and able to perform duty in inclement weatherconditions
• Ability to write legible reports, use a portable radio, and usejudgment that is sound and proper when addressing emergencies
