Job summary

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Legal Advisor to provide legal information and advice to the Sheriff and departmental personnel on criminal investigations, hiring, discipline, and civil matters.

The role requires a Law Degree and Georgia Bar membership, along with a valid Georgia driver's license. You will perform legal research, draft policies, and assist with litigation and contract work for the County.

Qualifications

• Requires either a Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree.
• Member in good standing with the Georgia Bar.
• Valid Georgia driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and opinions toSheriff and staff on criminal investigations, personnel matters, and hiring/discipline.
• Assist with preparation and defense of civil lawsuits against the county, department, and employees.
• Draft policy proposals, conduct legal research, and provide technical legal assistance.
• Analyze federal/state laws and regulations; inform department of changes and impacts on operations.
• Conduct legal research and update officers on current laws, trends, and practices.
• Develop and issue departmental policies, procedures, and general orders.
