Additional qualifications for lateral transfers: Must be currently working or employed within the last twelve months as a public safety dispatcher in a California Law Enforcement Agency or California Fire Department with a minimum of one (1) year experience as a public safety dispatcher with the same agency.
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Definition: Under general supervision, receives 911 system emergency and non-emergency calls; dispatches assignments according to established emergency and County procedures; performs a variety of technical tasks related to the assigned functional area; and performs related duties as assigned.
Receives general supervision from supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
This role involves independently performing technical duties in support of public safety communications, exercising judgment and initiative, with only occasional instruction or assistance.
Knowledge of law enforcement communication principles, emergency radio and telephone procedures, and related laws; ability to interpret maps, recall detailed information, work under stress, make quick decisions, and communicate effectively.
Equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of general office and computer experience.
Primarily sedentary office work, requiring good vision, hearing, speech, and finger dexterity. Office environment with moderate noise, interaction with upset staff or public, and passing a background check.
Includes computer, fax, and standard office equipment.
All employees are Disaster Service Workers and must complete related training and return to work during emergencies.
