If you have not taken the POST Dispatcher Exam and achieved a T-Score of 50.8 within the last 12 months, apply to the PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER I-IV: 9-1-1 DISPATCHER (ENTRY LEVEL - NTN EXAM HERE).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Under general supervision, receives and dispatches emergency (911) calls for police, fire, and emergency medical services; enters data into a computer while questioning callers; determines the nature, validity, and disposition of calls; may provide post-dispatch medical instructions; utilizes computer-generated messages and priorities to dispatch units; operates communication equipment; performs call reception and dispatch activities; answers inquiries; accesses and transmits information; relays situational data; may train dispatchers or act in supervisory roles; performs related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE
  • Willingness to work: Any shift, including holidays, weekends, and overtime.
  • Ability to: Handle high-volume emergency calls tactfully; multi-task effectively; speak clearly; interpret policies, laws, and regulations; demonstrate keyboarding skills at 35 wpm with a valid Keyboarding Certificate obtained within the last 12 months from an approved agency; pass background and polygraph tests; have no felony convictions.

Proof of keyboarding skills must be uploaded at the time of application. Desirable qualifications include bilingual skills, emergency communication experience, EMT or POST certifications.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Applicants will undergo application review, performance exams, and, if applicable, POST waiver assessments. The process is continuous, with eligible lists established periodically.
