Candidates must be available to work assigned and rotating shifts, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.

To be considered, you MUST attach a valid 5-minute typing certificate of at least 40 Net WPM (test taken within 1 year of application). Online testing agencies are accepted.

Knowledge & Education
  • Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of municipal law enforcement operations and dispatch functions, including methods for receiving, prioritizing, and dispatching calls.
  • Familiarity with principles, practices, methods, and terminology used in public safety dispatching, including computer-aided dispatch and emergency systems.
Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to assess and prioritize emergency situations calmly using sound judgment.
  • Dispatch appropriate response units for various emergencies.
  • Disseminate information quickly and accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with upset callers and obtain necessary information under stress.
  • Prepare accurate and concise reports.
  • Memorize codes, locations, and other relevant information.
  • Read maps and documentation.
  • Multitask effectively, listening, speaking, and operating computer systems simultaneously.
  • Maintain composure and alertness during extended periods of work.
  • Make independent decisions affecting safety within established parameters.
  • Utilize law enforcement software and systems efficiently.
  • Operate dispatch, radio, and telecommunication systems accurately.
  • Enter and retrieve data swiftly and accurately.
Experience
  • Public Safety Dispatcher I: One year of responsible work involving public contact.
  • Public Safety Dispatcher II: One year of responsible dispatch experience as a Dispatcher I or equivalent, plus successful completion of training.
Licenses and Certifications

Dispatcher I: Possession or within 12 months of employment, obtain a valid P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate, maintained throughout employment.

Dispatcher II: Valid P.O.S.T. Certificate and ability to obtain/maintain a CLETS Certification.
