Job summary

The City of Cape Girardeau is seeking a capable public safety dispatcher to receive and evaluate emergency and non-emergency calls. You will disseminate information to law enforcement, medical, and fire services, and coordinate with multiple agencies through a CAD system.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, no felonies, and Missouri MSHP certification within the first year. The role offers hourly pay with a robust benefits package and bi-weekly payroll.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• No felony convictions.
• MSHP certification required within first year of employment and recertification as required.
• Continuing education requirements as established by the State of Missouri.
• Preferred: experience as a public safety dispatcher.

Responsibilities

• Receives, screens, and takes appropriate action on both emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Disseminates information between law enforcement, medical, and fire responders.
• Answers 911, non-emergency, text, and TDD calls for service.
• Monitors and transmits radio traffic across a multi-agency system and CAD.
• Relays information to first responders and maintains unit location awareness.
• Provides information and instructions to the public within scope of authority.
