Job description

Good Giant is the largest gaming-focused advertising agency in the United States providing comprehensive marketing services to various brands with a specialization in tribal and commercial casino resorts from coast to coast.

Good Giant is looking for an experienced, curious and highly organized public relations professional to join our team as a Public Relations Specialist. This role supports a diverse mix of clients across travel and tourism, hospitality, gaming, events, nonprofit and other industries. The right person is a strong writer and storyteller who understands what makes a story newsworthy, knows how to build relationships with media and can confidently help move client work from idea to execution.

This is an agency role, which means no two days look exactly the same. You may be developing a media strategy one day, pitching a reporter or coordinating an interview the next, and supporting media on-site at a major event later that week. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable juggling multiple clients and deadlines, takes ownership of their work and knows when to run with something and when to ask questions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute public relations strategies, media relations programs and communications plans for assigned clients.
  • Identify strong, timely story angles by understanding clients’ businesses, industries, audiences and larger news cycles.
  • Write and edit press releases, media pitches, talking points, media advisories, fact sheets, executive messaging, award submissions and other communications materials.
  • Build thoughtful, targeted media lists and conduct proactive outreach to local, regional, trade and national media.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, producers, influencers and other relevant media contacts.
  • Coordinate interviews, media visits, press conferences, media days, grand openings and other earned media opportunities.
  • Provide on-site media relations support for client events, including managing credentials, coordinating interviews, identifying real-time story opportunities and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Monitor news, industry developments and cultural trends to identify opportunities or potential issues for clients.
  • Prepare clients and spokespeople for media interviews through briefing materials, talking points and media training support.
  • Track media coverage and help translate results into meaningful client reporting, insights and recommendations.
  • Manage multiple projects, deadlines, approvals and deliverables across several accounts at once.
  • Participate actively in client meetings and internal planning sessions, bringing forward ideas, recommendations and next steps.
  • Work collaboratively with account service, creative, social, digital and other agency teams to support integrated campaigns.
  • Build strong client relationships by being responsive, prepared, thoughtful and proactive.
  • Support new business research, strategy and proposal development as needed.
  • Assist with issues and crisis communications, including monitoring, messaging development and rapid-response media coordination when necessary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Approximately 3-5 years of professional public relations or communications or journalism experience.
  • Agency experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with a strong command of AP style.
  • Demonstrated media relations experience, including successfully identifying stories, pitching media and coordinating interviews.
  • Strong understanding of what makes a compelling earned media story — and the judgment to know when something isn't one.
  • Confident and professional client communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project-management abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize competing assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative, reliable member of a team.
  • Comfortable communicating with executives, journalists, community partners and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with media monitoring and database platforms such as Muck Rack, Cision or Meltwater.
  • Familiarity with PR measurement and reporting, including the ability to look beyond raw placement counts and evaluate the quality and impact of earned media.
  • Willingness to occasionally work outside traditional business hours for events, breaking news or time-sensitive client needs.
What We’re Looking For

Beyond experience, we’re looking for someone who is:

  • A strong storyteller. You can find the interesting angle in a lot of information and communicate it clearly and concisely.
  • A media relations person at heart. You understand that effective pitching is about knowing the story, the outlet and the journalist — not simply sending more emails.
  • Proactive. You notice opportunities, ask good questions and bring ideas forward rather than waiting for an assignment.
  • Organized. You can keep several clients, deadlines and moving pieces straight without losing sight of the details.
  • A good client partner. You’re comfortable giving recommendations, explaining your thinking and sometimes advising a client against an approach that isn't likely to work.
  • Calm under pressure. Events change, reporters call unexpectedly and priorities shift. You can adjust without creating unnecessary chaos.
  • Collaborative. You communicate well, help teammates when needed and understand that strong agency work is rarely produced in a silo.
  • Curious. You want to understand a client's business and industry well enough to spot stories and opportunities others might miss.
