The Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield’s Public Library, is seeking a compassionate social worker to support patrons in navigating daily challenges and connect them with community resources. The role collaborates with library staff and external partners to advocate for access to behavioral health services and housing, employment, and education supports.

Responsibilities include crisis intervention, case management, staff training, and developing programs to meet behavioral health needs.

Qualifications

• MSW from CSWE-accredited program.
• Current Massachusetts social work licensure (LSW, LCSW, or LICSW) required.
• 1–3 years of community health social work experience.
• Knowledge of library mission and best practices for public libraries.

Responsibilities

• Staff assistance, consultations, and training; compassionate enforcement of policies.
• Direct patron work including crisis planning and interim case management.
• Build community partnerships with mental health providers and community organizations.
• Lead incident debriefings and provide in-service presentations.
• Perform duties as required.
