Job summary

Montana Historical Society’s MTHS Library & Archives seeks a Librarian 1 to join the public-facing team in Helena. The role provides reference services in person and remotely, assists with acquisitions and collection development, and helps with tours and outreach.

Requirements include a Master’s degree in Library Science or MLIS, 1–2 years of related experience, knowledge of Montana history, and strong communication skills. The position is 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday, not eligible for telework.

Qualifications

• Conducts and communicates research for a broad range of topics for patrons in person, via phone, mail, and e-mail.
• Provides reference services and assists with acquisitions and collection development.
• Maintains accessibility of catalogs and finding aids and supports public programs.

Responsibilities

• Responds to inquiries from individuals, agencies, groups, and researchers.
• Helps supervise and maintain Library & Archives collections in the public reference room.
• Delivers public programs and outreach about the collection.
