Job summary

Maricopa County Environmental Services Department seeks a Vector Control Specialist to lead surveillance, testing, complaint management, and treatment activities under the Environmental Health Code. This role supports efforts to protect over four million residents from mosquito-borne diseases and other vectors.

The position requires pest/vector control experience, a high school diploma or GED, and Arizona applicator certification within 120 days.

Qualifications

• One year of pest or vector control experience.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
• Valid Arizona Department of Agriculture, Pest Management Division Certified Applicator certification within 120 days of hire
• Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by time of hire
• Associate’s degree or higher in environmental studies or related field valued
• Experience performing vector control in a public sector environment required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates problems and carries out treatments using biological, chemical, or physical control methods.
• Sets and retrieves mosquito monitoring traps and rodent traps.
• Collects vector specimens and identifies species in field and lab.
• Maintains records of fieldwork and uses database software.
• Educates the public and advises citizens on vector control matters.
• Trains new employees and assists in program operations reporting.
