Job summary

Washington State Department of Health seeks a Risk Communications and Media Relations Specialist to plan, develop, and deliver information that strengthens the department's credibility and public health impact. You will serve as a Communications Consultant and Public Information Officer for the Environmental Public Health division and broader DOH priorities.

This role focuses on media liaison work, risk communication leadership, and coaching agency leadership and staff for effective media

Qualifications

Four years of experience in public affairs, public health policy, communications, journalism, or public relations.
Four years of experience in media relations, including building relationships with media outlets.
Proven ability to write clearly using AP Style in news releases, blogs, and other materials.
Experience communicating complex public health issues to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

Lead risk communications and media relations for EPH programs and other DOH priorities.
Represent the agency as a communications liaison and spokesperson to media and the public.
Lead public information and risk communications during emergencies and crises.
Advise executive leadership on media strategy and communications priorities.
Prepare and coach staff for media events and interviews.
Organize and staff media interviews, briefings, and meetings.
