Job description

This position works as a nurse specialist in the epidemiology department over communicable diseases and assists in other programs such as TB and Hepatitis.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Assess, plan, and coordinate a variety of services and have strong input into administrative and personnel duties and responsibilities.
• Monitor and maintain all patients with bacterial, hospital acquired, and rabies infections/diseases.
• Serves as the back-up for the Tuberculosis Program and will aid the TB Clinic Coordinator with EPI records, TB screenings, home visits PPD placements and reads, and contact investigations regarding TB cases.
• This position requires the nurse to cross-train in the Sexually Transmitted Infections Clinic and function as Treatment Nurse when necessary and/or provide services for STI Express Clinic under standing orders.

Employee is subject to be called upon anytime to help the agency respond to a public health emergency which may include, but is not limited to, outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents (man-made or natural and intentional or non-intentional) as they arise, or any public health response requested by the Health Director.

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N.C. Board of Nursing.

Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a B.S. Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master’s in Public Health, will be required to complete an introductory course in principles and practices of public health nursing sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services- Division of Public Health within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule, 10 NCAC 46.0301.

Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities.

College transcripts, relevant certifications/licensures and verification of equivalent degree, if applicable, may be submitted on-line via the attachment feature or mailed to Cumberland County Department of Public Health Human Resources, 1235 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Background check and negative drug test are required.
