PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE

SALARY RANGE: The position is a Grade RN2 with the following weekly salaries:

• Minimum: $1,079.28
• Step 1: $1,113.14
• Step 2: $1,146.94
• Step 3: $1,187.07
• Step 4: $1,226.21
• Maximum: $1,295.68

This position works 10 months; the weekly compensation is paid over 52 weeks. Note: The governing Collective Bargain Agreement expired on June 30, 2024. Wages are subject to any newly negotiated GWI increases.

EDUCATIONAL BONUSES:

Members presenting evidence of satisfactory completion of certain credentials on or before September 1 will receive a lump-sum bonus by December 15:

• Bachelor of Arts: $1,500
• Bachelor of Science: $2,000
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing: $3,000
• Master of Science: $3,500
• Master of Science in Public Health or Nursing: $4,000

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Public Health Nurses work under the direction of the Health Director and supervision of the Nurse Administrator or other Nursing Supervisors. The duties primarily involve school nursing as defined by the National Association of School Nurses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

RN with a Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field, with at least one year of full-time work experience in the last three years. Experience in school nursing, public health, pediatrics, emergency department, or critical care is preferred. Must have current CPR/AED certification by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Must attach a valid RN license, CPR/AED certification, and Connecticut driver’s license.

SCOPE OF EXAMINATION:

Oral Board Examination, weighted 100%, testing knowledge, skills, functions of local public health and social service agencies, professional documentation, report writing, communication, and teamwork.
