Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) seeks an Exterminator for the Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services to inspect, treat, and prevent pest infestations across assigned districts.

Responsibilities include applying approved pesticides, maintaining records, and collaborating with supervisors. Valid driver’s license and NYSDEC 7A certification are required.

Qualifications

• A valid driver's license with a good DMV record.
• Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator (7A) certificate from NYSDEC.
• Physical ability to perform fieldwork.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in typing for documenting findings.
• Flexible, adaptable, customer-focused.

Responsibilities

• Inspect assigned infestation areas to determine the extermination method.
• Properly bait sites using approved pesticides per protocol.
• Manage a daily route and prepare poisons/equipment as needed.
• Prepare reports via mobile device detailing operations.
• Assist colleagues and supervise rodent exclusion work when required.
• Inspect demolition sites to confirm pre-demolition rodent control.
• Maintain safety gear and operate city vehicle safely.
• Maintain pesticide applicator licensure with ongoing education.
