Job summary

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks an Associate Public Health Sanitarian to supervise inspectors, review inspection reports, and ensure compliance with environmental health regulations. The role emphasizes leadership, field inspections, and program oversight in veterinary and pest control services.

Minimum qualifications include a baccalaureate or equivalent with science credits and two years of inspection experience; or an associate degree with four years of relevant work;

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent with required science coursework and two years of inspection experience.
• Alternate pathways require an associate degree with four years of related work.
• All candidates must meet NYCRR Title 10 Health provisions and residency rules.

Responsibilities

• Train and supervise Public Health Sanitarians on new procedures and skills.
• Review and approve inspection reports submitted by staff.
• Conduct quality assurance inspections of inspection staff.
• Assist inspectors with tablet and system software issues.
• Respond to complaints with written reports and documentation.
• Develop written reports on work in high rat burden areas.
• Attend Community Board and community meetings and report activities.
• Coordinate follow-up with Senior Exterminating/Stoppage team.
• Organize and lead walk-throughs and Rat Academies.
• Coordinate with other City Agencies as needed.
