Open to candidates who are permanent or those who will be successfully applying for the Open-Competitive PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISER, Exam No. 5116, or the PROMOTION TO PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISER, Exam No. 5541, within the filing period from October 9, 2024, to October 29, 2024.

Program and Job Description:

The Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (BHHS) oversees NYC’s response to viral hepatitis, HIV, and STIs, including testing, prevention, treatment, epidemiology, community engagement, and policy work. The role involves confidential disease investigation and intervention activities, provider and community education, and research support.

Key Duties:
  1. Conduct confidential disease investigations, including field investigations and data collection from various sources.
  2. Determine case status based on national definitions.
  3. Ensure treatment and document activities in MAVEN system.
  4. Educate providers on reporting, treatment, and screening.
  5. Conduct disease intervention, including patient education, contact tracing, and referrals.
  6. Perform phlebotomy, rapid HIV, and STI screening in clinical or field settings.
  7. Link clients to additional health services.
  8. Participate in emergency response activities as needed.

Candidates must bring necessary documentation to interviews, including proof of identity, education, address, and experience verification. Selected candidates will need to produce original documents during onboarding.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Baccalaureate degree with coursework in health or sciences, or
  2. Degree plus six months of relevant experience, or
  3. High school diploma plus four years of relevant experience, or
  4. Equivalent education/experience.

Additional requirements include at least one year of relevant experience for Level II positions, bilingual skills preferred, and a valid NYS driver license.
