Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) seeks a Public Health Adviser to support clinics and quickie lab operations. You will perform HIV rapid tests, handle specimens, and provide counseling while entering results into the EMR/EPIC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 credits in health education or health, social, or biological sciences.
• Six months of full-time experience in health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program.
• Experience interviewing, conducting investigations, assessing risks, making referrals, or analyzing epidemiological data.

Responsibilities

• Manage collection rooms and disinfect surfaces after each collection.
• Perform HIV rapid INSTI tests.
• Provide HIV test results to patients.
• Prepare specimen collection kits for patients.
• Deliver specimens to Quickie Lab.
• Enter data into the EMR/EPIC and post patient results.
• Conduct confidential counseling for patients diagnosed with STI, HIV or Covid and refer for follow-ups.
• Establish effective communication with staff and management to meet needs and objectives.
