Job summary

Village of Oak Park seeks a Community Engagement Manager for the Police Department to foster trust and transparency with the public. You will manage outreach, serve as Public Information Officer, and coordinate with CPU, NROs, and community partners.

The role includes developing media communications, organizing academy activities, and aligning messaging with the Chief's vision. Evenings and weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years in community engagement, public relations, or related field.
• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, criminal justice, political science, or related field.
• Knowledge of social media management and crisis communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead community engagement programs to strengthen relationships with the public.
• Serve as liaison with CPU and neighborhood partners to enhance engagement strategies.
• Develop media reports and respond to inquiries in the PIO role.
• Coordinate the Citizen Police Academy logistics and outreach.
• Collaborate with Office of Communications and Village Departments for consistent messaging.
• Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
