Job summary

Maryland Office of the Public Defender seeks experienced litigators to serve as Assistant Public Defenders in Baltimore County, Maryland, providing client-centered representation with a commitment to justice and equity.

Qualifications

• Active membership in good standing in the Maryland Bar or Bar of another state.

Responsibilities

• Passionate and zealous representation of clients at every stage of the criminal process.
• Ensure clients are consistently heard and respected.
• Conducts legal research and analysis for trial preparation and problem resolution.
• Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and service providers.
• Counsels clients on changes in law and legal issues.
• Negotiate with prosecutors to resolve cases favorably.
• Manage a full caseload resourcefully.
• Pursue professional development through trainings and trial skills courses.
• Other duties as assigned by the Public Defender.
