Metropolitan Public Defender Services, Inc (MPD) in Hillsboro, OR is seeking an Attorney I for January 2027. This regular full-time, in-person role handles court-appointed criminal defense across Multnomah and Washington counties, with a salary range of $92,052.48 to $155,304.24 annually.

The Attorney reviews charging instruments and police reports, meets clients to understand goals, directs investigations, researches issues, negotiates with the State, and litigates as needed, including

Qualifications

• Must be a current member of the Oregon State Bar in good standing.
• Areas of proficiency should include evidence, criminal law, criminal procedure, court procedure, ethics, and collateral consequences.

Responsibilities

• Review charging instruments, police reports and other discovery.
• Meet with clients to understand their goals and any special needs.
• Determine investigations to undertake and direct them accordingly.
• Develop legal issues, conduct research and present arguments in court or appropriate forum.
• Negotiate with the State and advise the client on status of negotiations and outcomes.
• Litigate necessary issues, including trials and post-trial motions (excluding appeals).
• Coordinate representation with units like specialty courts or juveniles as applicable.
