Job summary

The County of Clarion invites applications for a public defender to provide competent legal representation to indigent or incarcerated criminal defendants at all stages of prosecution in Clarion County.

You will handle investigations, prepare for hearings, argue before courts, counsel clients, and manage motions and appeals, with supervision by the Chief Public Defender. Willingness to travel and required clearances are essential.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree and PA Bar admission.
• Public defender internship or similar experience preferred.
• Must work with employer to obtain Act 34/151 clearances and FBI clearance.
• Must possess effective English communication and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Investigates cases, interviews witnesses, and researches for pre-trial hearings and trials.
• Presents arguments before Magisterial District Judges and Courts of Common Pleas.
• Counsels clients and files motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Represents clients at pre-trial hearings, trials, sentencing, and post-conviction hearings.
• Negotiates plea bargains with District Attorney and handles appellate materials.
