Job summary

Clarion County seeks an Assistant Public Defender in Clarion, PA to provide competent legal representation to indigent clients at all stages of criminal prosecution.

Juris Doctorate and Pennsylvania Bar admission are required, along with strong research, negotiation and courtroom advocacy.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree and Pennsylvania Bar admission.
• Public defender internship or equivalent experience preferred.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive information.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Investigates assigned cases, interviews witnesses, and conducts legal research for pre-trial hearings and trials.
• Prepares and delivers arguments in Magisterial District Judges and Court of Common Pleas.
• Counsels clients and negotiates plea bargains with District Attorney.
• Prepares motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Visits facilities and represents clients at various hearings and trials.
• Drafts post-trial motions and appellate materials as needed.
• Maintains client confidentiality and coordinates with internal departments.
