Qualifications

• Five years of experience as a practicing attorney in criminal law; extensive litigation experience (three years minimum).
• Must be admitted to the Bar of New York or eligible for admission at time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Assign counsel or attorneys for each indigent defendant charged with a crime.
• Appoint sub-professional, technical, and clerical staff to assist in defending indigent.
• Ensure defendants are represented and counseled at every stage after arrest.
• Maintain an active case load of defense cases.
• Initiate necessary proceedings to protect the rights of the accused.
• Prepare any warranted appeals under existing circumstances.
• Prepare and administer annual budget.
• Keep records and make reports.
