Job summary

The City of Bismarck is seeking a Communications Officer to support messaging across platforms under the Communications Strategist for the Administration Department. This role will craft clear, effective communications that align with the city’s strategic plans and engage its 15 departments and the broader community.

Duties include developing campaigns, editing documents, managing media relations, handling social media, and supporting emergency communications.

Qualifications

• Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 1–2 years of related experience.
• Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with municipal government operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns.
• Prepare and edit communications, documents and presentations for City officials.
• Manage social media and website content for the City of Bismarck.
• Serve as a liaison between the City and news media; pitch stories and manage media contacts.
• Support emergency services during emergencies with clear and timely communications.
• Compile data to support City goals and produce metrics and summaries.
• Attend meetings and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
