Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration in Biloxi, MS is seeking a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist within the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System. This role leads public communications, media relations, and stakeholder briefing efforts to educate and inform the public and Congress.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements plans, operating procedures, and policies to improve and enhance public communication efforts.
• Develops and decimates management reports; establishes and maintains contact with high level officials and representatives.
• Creates interpretive content for social media accounts to educate and inspire the public.
• Initiates liaison with media; assesses media needs to convey agency research relevance and impact.
• Serves as key member of emergency communications teams at local and regional levels.
• Provides public relations to stakeholders, Congressional relations, and voluntary service.
• Oversees development of initiatives including training and integration into applicable systems.
• Develops and reviews emergency operations; writes speeches and talking points for events.
• Coordinates and provides oversight for high level briefings; provides employee briefings before media interviews.
• Produces employee and patient newsletters and annual reports; maintains intranet sites; performs related duties.
