Job description

Overview

The Public Affairs Coordinator drives the implementation, in partnership with the Offices of Marketing and Communications, of strategic events to highlight Middlesex County’s partnerships, position the County as a thought leader, and advance the public profile of the County and the Board of County Commissioners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Event Strategy and Execution
    • Serve as the lead representative from the Office of Public and Government Affairs (PGA) on the County’s Event Team.

    • Lead planning and coordination for events organized by the PGA Office, in close collaboration with the Director and Operations Manager.

    • Coordinate event logistics including site selection and reservations, catering, invitation lists, run-of-show development, agendas, and other event-related details.

  • Commissioner Support and Public Engagement

    • Support and/or manage County Commissioner events such as flag raising's, resolution presentations, press announcements, and other public-facing activities.

    • Provide advance work, on-site support, and photography for Commissioner appearances and events.

  • Constituent Relations and Communication

    • Draft responses to constituent inquiries, official correspondence, letters, and conduct research as assigned on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners.

    • Conduct research and prepare supporting materials as directed.

  • Department Liaison

    • Act as the designated Public and Government Affairs liaison to specific County departments and agencies as assigned by the Director.

    • Provide general staff support for County Commissioners, including but not limited to performing advance work, in-person support, and photography; particularly for those with a specific nexus to public policy.
    • Support initiatives and communications that align with public policy and the County’s strategic priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations or other related fieldspreferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in event planning and public engagement

  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for events

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event planning tools preferred

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is:

  • $41,000 - $62,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
