Job summary

The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County is seeking a Public Access Assistant to create welcoming outdoor experiences across public access properties in Santa Cruz County. This field-based role involves engaging visitors, maintaining trails, monitoring conditions, and supporting programs under the supervision of the Public Access Manager.

Hours total about 40 per week, typically 7am–5pm, with some evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience engaging with visitors using respectful and inclusive communication.
• Ability to walk long distances on steep, uneven terrain and perform physical tasks.
• Basic safety and first aid or emergency preparedness knowledge, with training provided.
• Comfortable managing risk in outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Engage with visitors with friendly, informative trail etiquette and site rules.
• Monitor trails and visitor use; report hazards and assist with programs.
• Lead interpretive walks and support public programs and events.
• Maintain trails, signs, and facilities; assist with habitat and restoration tasks.
