Description/Duties And Responsibilities

The City of Santa Clarita is recruiting for a part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) Equipment Porter in the Parks division of the Neighborhood Services department. Under supervision, this position will perform maintenance on a variety of small power equipment for the City's Parks division.

This position is expected to work 4 to 5 days a week from 6:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains weekly schedule for safety inspections and cleaning of small power equipment
  • Coordinates with Parks staff to pick up and deliver vehicles for preventative maintenance or repairs
  • Retrieves and delivers parts and supplies from/to local vendors
  • Performs minor equipment repairs on items such as spark plugs, air filters, belts, carburetors, weed whips, and blowers
  • Prepares and maintains equipment for use, ensuring proper check-in/check-out procedures for staff
  • Stocks gas cans for all park locations and delivers them to parks as needed
  • Maintains shop cleanliness
  • Performs additional related duties as needed

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Minimum 6 months of experience servicing small equipment or other related experience in the maintenance field
  • Valid Class C California Driver's License and a safe driving record are required
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic operations and maintenance of small power equipment and components
  • Ability to use basic shop hand and power tools such as ratchets, sockets, hand wrenches, screw drivers, pneumatic power tools, and grease guns
  • Ability to drive a variety of equipment and Class C vehicles
  • Ability to keep basic maintenance records
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including inclement weather
  • Strong team player and the ability to work both independently and as part of a work group
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and outside agencies
  • Strong work ethic, proactive, and the ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work in a safe and productive manner
  • This position requires physical labor, including the ability to bend, squat, lift, carry and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more

In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.

PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
