Job description

JOB SUMMARY: Under general technical supervision of a licensed Therapist or Assistant, and the Administrative supervision of the clinical Supervisor and Director of Therapy Services, the Physical Therapy Assistant carries out treatment protocols established by the Physical Therapist to improve and maximize patient mobility and independent functioning within their physical limitations and disabilities. Acts as an assistant to the Physical Therapist and carries out assigned duties as delegated.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  1. Graduate of a certified program for P.T.A.
  2. Previous experience in hospital or nursing home patient care.
  3. CPR/BLS required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs treatment under direction of PT.
  2. Responsible for applicable procedures regarding Therapy.
  3. Trains patients in exercise/program activities.
  4. Follows PT and physician orders.
  5. Applies principles of infection control.
  6. Reports changes in patient conditions to Physical Therapist.
  7. Organizes patient care and general department activities.
  8. Complies with procedures for maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  9. Practices appropriate safety measures with patients.
  10. Communicates observations and facts with supervisor therapist.
  11. Maintains a professional level of conduct at all times.
  12. Participates in in-service programs and other activities.
  13. Adheres to all hospital and department policies.
  14. Works well with co-workers, physicians, and staff.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
