Job summary

One Hope United in Rockford, IL seeks a Part-Time Youth Care Worker to support youth in a therapeutic residential setting. You will supervise youth, model positive behavior, and help youth develop life skills under a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach.

You will implement treatment goals, maintain safety, and collaborate with clinicians, case managers, educators, and support staff. A high school diploma or GED and 21+ are required; training including TCI is provided.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work with youth with behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and support to youth in accordance with OHU and DCF policies.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach in all interactions.
  • Teach, model, and participate in daily living activities, social skill development, emotional regulation, recreation, and independent living skills.
  • Implement youth treatment goals as outlined in Individual Treatment Plans and the OHU Residential Program Plan.
  • Maintain certification and competency in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and other approved behavior-management strategies.
  • Follow program schedules, behavioral expectations, and treatment interventions designed to support youth success.
  • Serve as a positive role model and provide guidance, structure, and encouragement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and treatment team members to provide high-quality care and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Protect client privacy and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.

What You'll Do

You'll need:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and required insurance coverage
  • Ability to successfully complete a DCF background check and obtain approval to transport youth
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems
  • A willingness to work with youth experiencing behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges
