Job summary

Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia, Inc. is seeking a Shelter Advocate to support residents and manage daily shift operations in a domestic violence shelter.

You will respond to crisis calls, conduct client intakes, document records, and coordinate with the Shelter Manager to maintain safety and order. The role requires a background in victim advocacy, knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• Background in victim advocacy required.

• CPR/First Aid Training required.
• Pass criminal background check and random drug screenings.
• Willing to adhere to shelter policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Serves as shift staff member on weekends and holidays (3pm-11pm).
• Manages day to day operations during shift (3pm-11pm).
• Keeps shelter safe and secure at all times; ensures resident safety.
• Answers crisis calls during shift.
• Collects and maintains detailed statistical data for all calls.
• Provides crisis intervention and referrals for clients.
• Screens client eligibility for shelter entry and contacts on-call staff as needed.
• Completes intake of new clients and children.
• Completes all resident paperwork.
• Provides verbal, positive support for clients.
• Instructs and supervises housekeeping chores for residents.
• Resolves client conflicts and misconduct when necessary.
• Helps clients adjust to communal living.
• Maintains confidential files and shelter statistics.
• Records donations and performs clerical tasks as requested by Shelter Manager.
• Attends to other duties as assigned by Shelter Manager.

The Shelter Advocate at Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia serves as the motivator, mentor, and supervisor working with clients and ensures that each client is given every opportunity to gain a life free of domestic violence.

Essential Job Functions as Shelter Advocate:

• Serves as shift staff member on weekends and holidays (3pm-11pm)
• Manages day to day operations during shift (3pm-11pm)
• Keeps shelter safe and secure at all times, is responsible for the safety of residents
• Answers crisis calls during shift
• Collects and maintains detailed statistical data pertaining to all calls
• Provides crisis intervention and referrals for clients
• Screens client appropriateness for shelter entrance when admission is needed and contacts on-call staff as needed
• Completes intake of in-coming clients and children
• Completes all resident paperwork
• Provides verbal, positive support for clients
• Instructs, supervises, and helps implement housekeeping chores required of residents
• Resolves client conflicts and misconduct when necessary
• Helps clients adjust to communal living
• Keeps all records for attending shift, with complete documentation and information for Shelter Manager and other staff
• Records all material donations
• Performs clerical tasks as requested by Shelter Manager
• Attends to other duties as may be assigned
• Maintains confidential client files and agency statistics for program
• Serves as an active and supportive team member and participates in work processes as identified
• Maintains communication with Shelter Manager and alerts her to any major problems or high-risk situations

Non-essential Job Functions:

• Assists in office coverage when necessary
• Assists in other areas such as shelter advocacy when needed

Requirements of Position Applicants:

• Possess a background in victim advocacy
• Possess an understanding of domestic violence dynamics
• Able to work independently
• Able to utilize the resources available both in the community and in-house.
• Obtain CPR/ First Aid Training
• Pass criminal background check
• Willing to submit to random drug screenings
• Willing to adhere to all shelter policies and procedures
