Job summary

YMCA of the East Bay is seeking enthusiastic lifeguards and swim instructors to join our team in Berkeley. This part-time role offers 5-25 hours per week and requires the ability to swim in shallow and deep water; no certifications required as training will be provided.

Responsibilities include leading lessons, promoting safety, recording attendance, and supporting events. Starting June, weekday shifts and flexible scheduling are available to fit student or family commitments.

Qualifications

• Certifications include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent, preferred.
• Must demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons using age-appropriate methods per YMCA curriculum.
• Build relationships with students and parents; encourage involvement.
• Maintain records and attend staff trainings; follow safety procedures.
• Organize class equipment; supervise aides; support events.
