Job Type: Part-Time | $17.44 per hour | 24 hours per week

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Responsible for managing daily tasks as provided by the Parks and Recreation Manager. Responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the city parks, ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and all other recreational facilities. Required to participate in all City-sponsored special events. Accountable to and works under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Manager.

  • Maintains city parks, ballfields, basketball courts, tennis court and all other city recreational facilities.
  • Manages all daily tasks as provided by the Parks and Recreation Manager.
  • Performs heavy manual labor such as digging, lifting objects or equipment, spraying, painting, and other manual labor.
  • Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, chain saws, backhoe, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
  • Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edgers.
  • Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
  • Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches, using hand or power tools.
  • Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.

  • Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites, or other grounds features.
  • Works occasionally on weekends, nights, holidays and special events.
  • Minor facility maintenance; assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, painting, machinery, or equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as directed or required by the Parks and Recreation Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of all equipment, tools and supplies required to complete projects.
  • Ability to operate lawn equipment
  • Ability to communicate and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to interact with public and co-workers in a courteous efficient and effective manner.
  • Ability to operate large and heavy equipment.
  • Critical thinking

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in lawn maintenance or similar work-related field.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrective lenses)
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without a hearing aid)
  • Requires physical strength and agility sufficient to safely perform heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, standing, squatting and use of all manual and electric tools required to complete all work assignments.
  • Drive

WORK CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Works in an outside environment and occasional nights and weekends; Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hats, or Life Jackets as necessary.
