Position Summary

The Security Officer ensures the safety and security of the campus community through routine patrols, prompt response to incidents and emergencies, and enforcement of campus policies and access control procedures.

Key Accountabilities
  • Conduct routine patrols of campus buildings and grounds to deter unauthorized activity.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents, emergencies, and calls for assistance.
  • Monitor surveillance systems and report suspicious behavior or safety concerns.
  • Enforce campus policies, regulations, and access control procedures.
  • Assist in emergency response situations, including fire drills and evacuations.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when needed.
  • Provide security support for university events and special functions.
  • Maintain detailed records of incidents, security breaches, and daily activities.
EXPECTATIONS OF ALL STAFF
  • Applies best efforts and full capability each day to the work assigned by their manager.
  • Advises the manager when:
    • An assignment is not understood.
    • An assignment conflicts with knowledge of the circumstances, current skills, or available time/resources.

Minimum Role Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field preferred.

WORK HOURS

The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most employees are expected to work within the core hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings, and may be required to work overtime.
