Job description

PT Seasonal Maintenance Worker

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the PT Seasonal Maintenance Worker will support town events, assist in overseeing park operations and open play rentals, help staff with work orders, and perform inspection, cleaning, landscaping, and sports field maintenance of parks, greenways, and facilities. This position may also perform other field assignments within the scope of this classification.

This opportunity provides experience in landscaping, park maintenance, and horticulture, allowing individuals to gain valuable work experience during summer months through observation of a local government parks maintenance division's operation and organization.

Essential Duties and Tasks:
  1. Read and interpret safety rules, operating procedures, and instructions.
  2. Write routine reports and complete work orders following oral or written instructions.
  3. Safely operate equipment, tools, cleaning supplies, and landscaping machinery.
  4. Work cooperatively in a team environment, maintaining respectful relationships with co-workers and customers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of communication, organization techniques, professionalism, and office equipment including computers and software.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to follow instructions; maintain confidentiality; establish effective relationships; operate office hardware and software.
Desirable Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent, with six months to one year of experience in landscape maintenance using relevant equipment. Valid North Carolina driver’s license with a good driving record required. Municipal experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, climbing, crawling, walking, pulling, lifting, fine motor skills, and observing. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Heavy lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
