PRIMARY PURPOSE

To provide fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous, and cooperative with other store associates. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to the Front End Standard Practice Manual, maximizing sales through excellent customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Smile and provide prompt, accurate, and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience.
  2. Greet each customer and use his or her name whenever possible.
  3. Unload customers' groceries from cart to belt, grouping cold items together for ease of bagging.
  4. Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order.
  5. Follow correct bagging procedures for the appropriate use of bags by type.
  6. Scan customers' orders and handle payment transactions per standard practice.
  7. Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present.
  8. Follow procedures in handling cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps, and WIC vouchers.
  9. Follow procedures for refunds and error correction.
  10. Maintain accurate cash control and perform overrides as necessary.
  11. Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take their orders to their cars.
  12. Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed to service customers per service standards.
  13. Check prices quickly and accurately.
  14. Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
  15. Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron, complete with name badge, when on duty, maintaining a neat and clean appearance in accordance with dress code.
  16. Retrieve shopping carts from parking lot and cart corrals using the tether strap per standard practice.
  17. Ensure the work station and front end area are neat and clean.
  18. Report any register malfunctions to the Customer Service Manager or MOD.
  19. Ensure the MVP savings center KIOSK is filled with paper and functioning properly.
  20. Adhere to all company guidelines, policies, and standard practices.
  21. Observe and correct unsafe conditions to prevent accidents.
  22. Notify QA of cleaning issues or maintenance needs on the front end.
  23. Complete computer-based training (CBT) and training aid courses successfully.
  24. Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
  • Ability to perform the technical requirements of cashier and service center roles.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to use computers and communication systems required to perform job functions.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
  • Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. on occasion.
  • Pull or push up to 75 lbs. on occasion.
  • Stand 100% of the time, with frequent short-distance walking.
  • Handle substances related to cleaning, packaging, fresh produce, houseplants/flowers, and household cleaners.
  • Use hands frequently/continuously to handle currency and operate equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and computers.
  • Reach and grasp at waist level frequently; occasionally above shoulder or below waist level.
  • Meet established volume activity standards.
  • Tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes.
  • Have sufficient visual ability to check ID cards, checks, and written documents.
  • Move empty bottles and containers from the front end to the back room where applicable.
