Primary Purpose
To provide fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service to our customers, adhering to Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous, and cooperative with store associates. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service Manager and Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards per the Front End Standard Practice Manual, and maximizing sales through excellent customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Smile and provide prompt, accurate, and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience.
- Greet each customer and use his or her name whenever possible.
- Unload customers’ groceries from cart to belt, grouping cold items together for ease of bagging.
- Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order.
- Follow correct bagging procedures for different types of bags.
- Scan customers' orders and handle payment transactions per standard practice.
- Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present.
- Follow procedures in handling cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps, and WIC vouchers.
- Follow procedures for refunds and error correction.
- Maintain accurate cash control.
- Follow procedures and perform overrides as needed.
- Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take their order to their car.
- Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed to service customers per service standards.
- Check prices quickly and accurately.
- Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
- Wear the Food Lion uniform, including apron and name badge, with a neat and clean appearance, adhering to the dress code.
- Retrieve shopping carts from parking lot and cart corrals using the tether strap per standard practice.
- Ensure the work station and front end area are clean and organized.
- Report register malfunctions to the Customer Service Manager or MOD.
- Ensure the MVP savings center KIOSK is stocked with paper and functioning properly.
- Adhere to all company policies and guidelines.
- Observe and correct unsafe conditions to prevent accidents.
- Notify QA of cleaning issues or maintenance needs on the front end.
- Complete computer-based training and courses as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements.
- Ability to perform cashier and service center functions.
- Must meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions.
- Ability to meet physical requirements with or without accommodations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use computers and communication systems.
- Perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
- Lift weights up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Pull or push up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
- Stand 100% of the time, with frequent short-distance walking.
- Handle various substances related to cleaning, packaging, produce, and household items.
- Use hands frequently for handling currency and operating equipment.
- Reach and grasp at waist level and occasionally above or below.
- Work in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes.
- Have sufficient visual ability to check IDs, checks, and documents.
